Glomerlonephritis Flashcards
Glomerlonephritis?
An immunologically mediated inflammation of the renal glomeruli.
Glomerlonephritis renal glomeruli?
Glomerlonephritis aetiology?
many different types that lead to inflammation and activation of compliment and coagulation cascades, the immune complexes may form within the glomerulus or be deposited from the circulation.
Glomerlonephritis epidemiology?
accounts for 25% of cases of chronic renal failure.
Glomerlonephritis symptoms?
haematuria,
subcutaneous oedema,
polyuria or oliguria,
history of recent infection,
symptoms of uraemia or renal failure.
Glomerlonephritis signs?
Hypertension,
proteinuria,
haematuria,
renal failure
Glomerlonephritis, nephrotic syndrome?
syndrome consists of triad of proteinuria, low serum albumin, oedema. Due to the hypoalbuminaemia, the liver tries to compensate and causes hyperlipidaemia.
Glomerlonephritis nephritic syndrome?
consists of triad of hypertension, proteinuria, haematuria. Pores in the podocytes allow protein and red blood cells through.
Glomerlonephritis investigations?
FBC, U&Es + creatinine,
LFTs (check albumin),
lipid profile,
complement studies,
antibodies,
urine (for protein and RBCs),
renal tract USS to exclude other pathology.
