Q

what are 2 explanations for global crime?

A

Taylor = argues globalisation and free market forces have caused increase in both w.c and m.c crimes

working class crimes = enables large transnational cooperation to relocate their factories to ledcs where wages are lower and this leads to relative deprivation with material deprivation that causes crime.

m.c = unregulated global free market enables elite to commit white collar crimes and cooperate crimes such as tax evasion and fraudulent crimes

criticism : fails to explain why some people only turn to crime whilst majority are still law abiding

rothe and freidche argue that international organisations such as world bank and imf are dominated majority capitiast states - usa , japan and uk and they provide loans

  • they impose pro capitalist and neo liberal economic “structural adjustments” programmes onto poorer countries as condition for loans they provide. this allows western countries spread into poor countries and this creates conditions for crime
