A

Describe trachoma

A

– Bacterial infection due to face-washing with dirty water, sharing linen & flies (Chlamydia trachomatis)
– Malnutrition (vit A deficiency) predisposes
– Leads to granulation of inner eyelid
– Eyelids turn inwards causing scratching of cornea
– Treatment is SAFE (Surgery, antibiotics, facewashing, environmental)
