What is the Brandt report?
A report published by the German Chancellor of the time, Willie Brandt. It highlighted global differences between rich and poor, the poverty of many developing countries, and the vast wealth of few developed countries.
What countries are part of the âglobal northâ? They are part of the worldâsâŚ
A group of wealthy counties in North America, Western Europe, Japan and Australasia. They are part of the worldâs High Income Countries (HICs).
What counties are part of the âglobal southâ? They are part of the worldâsâŚ
A group of much poorer countries in Latin America, Africa, and Asia. These are part of the worldâs Low Income Countries (LICs).

The richest fifth of 20% - of the worldâs countries own 83% of the worldâs wealth.

In the 1980s rapid development took place in Latin America. What did this cause?
A group of countries now knows as Middle Income Countries (MICs).
Name two MICs
Brazil and Chile. Large reserves of raw materials in these countries (EG iron ore) encouraged investment and growth, and their cities experienced big increases in population.
