What is a norm?
An accepted standard of behaviour
E.g. Freedom of speech
What do global governing bodies aim to do?
Regulate poltical and economic systems
Enforce rules
Promote growth and stability
Reduce the chance of global conflicts
What are WHO and UNESCO
WHO= world health organisation - tackles epidemics UNESCO = united nations educational scientific and cultural organisation - shares advancements in science globally to help promote development
What are the limitations to global governance?
No country can be forced to join an organisation
Sanctions are limited as people wont sanction countries they are dependent on e.g. China
Governing bodies can be exploited, countries have been accused of using global courts to remove African leaders
Not all TNCs will comply to the rules
Describe inequalities that global governance brings about
IMF and World bank have conditional loans
Only more powerful countires have Vetoes in the UN these can be used to cause imbalance
G7 countries increase their own power through their global governance
Give an example of how a Global decision causes local change
Paris agreement decided by UN
but must be followed by local councils
What are the aims of the UN?
To maintain global peace
Develop friendly relationships
Cooperation
Settle disputes
When was the UN set up and how many counties are signed up?

What are the UN development goals?
Reduce poverty
Increases those attending primary education
Reduce infant mortality rate
Describe the injustices created by the UN
Mostly HICs hold the power
I.e. No African nations are on the security council
Sometimes they fail in certain areas e.g. The boznian war
