global atmospheric circulation Flashcards
what actually is it
transfer of heat from equator to the poles by movement of air
high and low pressure
high is cool air descends
low is hot air ascends
abt the hadley cell
hadley cell - hot air rises at equator so low pressure and rainfall, largest cell, up to 30 and 40 N and S. forms cumulonimbus clouds when air is high and cool
ferrel cell - cool air sinks, so high pressure and hot environment, middle cell, up to 60 and 70
polar cell - hot air rises, so low pressure, rises at 60, descends at 90
northen and southern hemisphere trade winds
northern = go right, northeastern trade winds
southern = go left, southeastern trade winds
abt the ferrel cell
ferrel cell - cool air sinks, so high pressure and hot environment, middle cell, up to 60 and 70
