Q

why was stratford chosen (2)

A

was rebranded due to the Olympics which may have improved the area econ soc and evniron
easily accessible due to the public transport rail network

Q

risk factors and how they can be reduced (2, 2 reduced each)

A

1: traffic accident. only cross road at designated points, wait for green man
2. fall into river. stay away from edge of river and do not lean over protective railings

Q

the two data collection techniques:

A

pedestrian count: stand at fixed point on each of the three locations with back against the wall to avoid missing people. count num of pedestrians walking both ways for 2 minutes. stratified. to prove the rebranded and regenerated area was more popular
environmental study: set 5 m perameter, carry out a bipolar survey. eg by counting gum, litter. could take an aerial photo to make checking answers easier

Q

strengths and weaknesses and improvement of each method:

A

pedestrian count: stop watch allowed accurate time count, little equipment needed
could get difficult to count every person
weather made data unreliable
complete 3 counts at each site, find an average
one person counts going left, one person counts going right
environmental study: easy to collect data, just had to count, little equipment needed
easy to miss litter/gum, cleaning schedule of the area could affect results
take a photo, get second person to count

7
Q

positives and negatives of each presentation method

A

proportional symbol: very visual, good for comparing sets of data, full range of data can be seen
symbols are large, make it hard to see what part of the map they represent, only a snapshot in time
radar graph: anomalies and similarities easy to see, efficiently depicts trend in data
hard to judge radii length, can distort data, can cause confusion
