Global Atmospheric Circulation Flashcards
1
Q
What is global atmospheric circulation?
A
The movement of air around the Earth to try and balance temperature.
2
Q
What are high pressure areas like?
A
Cool air sinks and warms. There is little condensation and so there are clear skies with lots of air pushed along the floor, bringing good weather.
3
Q
What are low pressure areas like?
A
Warm area rises, cools and condenses. There’s less air on the ground as a result, and bad weather comes with it.
4
Q
What are the air cells and where are they located?
A
The polar cells are found at the poles, with the ferrel cells after them. Where they should meet are the hadley cells.
