GLASSWARES, INSTRUMENTS AND EQUIPMENT USED IN MICROBIOLOGY Flashcards
used to heat chemicals, hold and heat liquids, grow bacteria and collect fluids from the body like blood or semen.
Test tubes
Used when the microorganism needs to undergo culture media and for substances that must be protected from contamination. It is also used to make broth, agar deep, and agar slant.
Screw capped tubes
hold liquids during centrifugation, which divides a sample into its constituents by quickly rotating it around a fixed axis.
Centrifuge tubes
It is used to observe microorganisms undergo or perform fermentation.
Smith tubes
Used to detect production of gas by microorganisms. An inverted small tube that is initially filled with the solution where microbial growth will happen.
Durham tubes
Fermentation tubes
Smith tubes
Durham tubes
used in laboratories to culture different cells and microorganisms
Plain petri dish
used to contain several media selectively and simultaneously
Petri dish w/ division:
Used to hold liquids and for mixing heating and cooling
Erlenmeyer Flasks
Used to accurately make and prepare solutions and any other liquids to a known volume
Volumetric Flasks
useful for the transfer of milliliter volumes of liquid.
Serologic
used for the transfer and dispense of a single, specific quantity of liquid to a very high degree of accuracy.

Volumetric
It is used to hold solids while weighing, cover beakers to prevent dust and other particles from entering, and to evaporate liquids.
