Q

Factors of last ice age

A

20,000 years ago

Ice was 3 km thick

7
Q

Freeze thaw weathering ?

A

Water enters a crevice in a rock

Water freezes and expands

Crevice expands

Cracks in rock get larger over time

Q

What is plucking ?

A

Water form glacier surrounds rock

Water refreezes and rock becomes part of glacier

Rock is ripped out as glacier moves

14
Q

How does a corrie form ?

A
  1. Snow accumulates on top of a slope
  2. Ice becomes frozen and plucking occurs, this makes the back wall steeper
  3. Freeze thaw weathering occurs
  4. Abrasion occurs
  5. Glacier leaves till at front which forms a lip
  6. When all ice melts a tarn forms.

16
Q

Drumlins ?

A

Egg shaped hills which show the direction a glacier has moved

17
Q

Lake District economic activities ?

A

Forestry
Farming
Tourism
Mining

18
Q

What is glacial trough ?

A

Ice pushed material in front of it

19
Q

What does meltwater do at the snout of a glacier ?

A

Transport debris away form the glacier

20
Q

When does material get deposited by a glacier ? (And what is it like)

A

When it melts

(Small and Rounded due to attrition)

21
Q

What are erratics ?

A

Frost shattered rock eroded form the ground and transported by glacier
