Glacial Erosion Landforms - Valley Floor Landforms Flashcards
What happens when a glacier flows over the land?
It flows over areas of hard rock and areas of soft rock.
What is the soft rock like?
Less resistant.
Glacier will carve out a deeper trough.
When the glacier have retreated what happens?
Water will collect in the deeper area and create a long thin lake called a ribbon lake
Where are a lot of ribbon lakes found?
English Lake District.
What happens to the areas of hard rock?
It is left behind called rock steps.
What happens if the glacier hits a resistant outcrop of rock?
It will flow over and around it.
The resistant outcrop becomes what?
A rock mount smoothed by abrasion from the glacier.
What is a roches moutonnee?
Steep jagged faces created by plucking on the lee side and a gradual incline which is smoothed and polished by abrasion on the other en
The roches moutonne may have striations on it indicating what?
The direction of glacier movement.
What are crag and tail?
Larger than roche moutonnee.
Opposite of roche moutonnee.
