What do glaciers cut?
Distinctive u-shaped valleys with a flat floor and steep sides.
What do glaciers do to river valleys?
They widen, steepen, deepen and smooth the v-shaped river valley.
Just like rivers, glaciers have what?
Tributaries.
As the main glacier erodes deeper into the valley, what does the tributary do?
Its left higher up the steep sides of the glacier.
u-shaped valleys ending with a waterfall at the cliff-face are called what?
Hanging valleys.
What happens when a river erodes the landscape?
Ridges of land form in its upper course which jut into the river
What are interlocking spurs?
A projecting ridges that extend alternately from the opposite sides of the wall of a young, V-shaped valley down a winding river course.
What does a glacier cut through?
Interlocking spurs.
When the glacier cuts through the interlocking spurs what does it leave behind?
Truncated spurs.
