Organisation
Organisation:
• Purpose – why this specific presentation; why now; what do they want to be able to do or understand; what
message does the presenter want to convey?
• Audience analysis – number of participants; is attendance compulsory; what are their roles/responsibilities;
what skills/past experience do the audience members have?
• Prepare – write down everything you could talk about and outline of your objectives – what do you need to
persuade the audience to do in a carefully targeted manner?
• Anticipate audience questions –consider what the audience may ask.
• Introduction, middle and conclusions – determined by the content and purpose of presentation, summarise
main points, etc.
• Determine main points – don’t have too many, discard any points that are not relevant, use of stories,
illustrations etc, avoid risk of going over time.
• Identify support material required – readings, facts, and consult local expert if necessary.
• Teaching style - incorporation of adult based learning theory, use of different modalities of communication,
interactive versus more didactic approach.
• Rehearsal – prepare visual aids etc, practice.
