GIT accessory organs Flashcards
Connective tissue that surround the liver
Glisson’s capsule
Space of disse
Space between the hepatocytes plate and the sinusoidal endothelium . Its also called “ perisinusoidal space “ .
Ito cells
day Fat-storing cells ( lipocytes ) in the perisinusoidal space
The function of ito cells
- Vit. A storage .
- Regulate the diameter of sinusoids.
- Secretion the extra-cellular matrix .
- Growth factor secretion .
Chronic liver disease
Ito cells acquire the feature of myofibroblast .
Bile secretion rate
500-10000 ml/day
Bile canaliculi
Space between basement membrane of two hepatocytes .
Cholangiocytes
Low cuboidal cells lined the bile ductules ( hering canal ).
Type of epi. that lines the bile ductules
Low cuboidal epi.
Type of epi. that lines bile duct
Cuboidal epi.
Type of epi. that lines rt & lt hepatic ducts
Tall columnar epi.
Type of epi. that lines common hepatic duct
Tall columnar epi.
Type of epi. that lines the common bile duct
Tall columnar epi.
Surfaces of hepatocytes
- Sinusoidal .
- Canalicular .
- Intercellular .
Functions of the liver
- Detoxification .
- Synthesis .
- Storage .
- Metabolism .
- Destruction .
Gall bladder function
Storage & concentration of bile .
Gall bladder capacity
50-100 ml

4. Serosa .
Tubuloacinar mucous glands
- near the cystic duct .
- located in epi. & invaginated into lamina propria of gall bladder .
Pancreas histology
- C.t capsule .
- Exocrine dark part .
—> pure serous ( tubuloacinar )
—> duct system ( centroacinar , intercalated , inter lobular & main pancreatic ducts ) . - Endocrine pale part .
—> islands of langerhans .
—> fenestrated capillaries .
—> reticular fibers .
Description of serous gland
Pyramidal cells sit on basal lamina surround central lumen narrow at apical & wide at the base , the nucleus located toward the base with basophilic cytoplasm .
Acinar secretion
Bicarbonate rich fluid consist of water , ions , prolytic enzyme & coenzymes .
Types of ducts located in pancreas
- Centro-acinar .

Low cuboidal epi.
Type of epi. In interlobulated duct
Low columnar epi.
Type of epi. in main pancreatic duct
Tall columnar epi.
