What is Gilbert’s Syndrome?
A
Gilbert’s syndrome is an autosomal recessive* condition of defective bilirubin conjugation
due to a deficiency of UDP glucuronosyltransferase.

Clinical Features of Gilbert’s Syndrome
A
Isolated Unconjugated hyperbilirubinaemia (i.e. not in urine)
Jaundice may only be seen during an intercurrent illness, exercise or fasting

Diagnosis of Gilbert’s Syndrome
A
Rise in bilirubin following prolonged fasting or IV nicotinic acid

Management
A
No treatment - reassure and discharge
