Cholelithiasis
A
- often presents w/ biliary colic (pain that comes & goes, in RUQ)
- cholesterol stones (mainly in gallbladder due to stasis & conc.), pigment stones • can cause cholangitis, cholecystitis, pancreatitis
- treatment = ERCP, cholecystectomy

Imaging cholelithiasis
A
• ultrasound = dilation of common bile duct, stone (white)
- MRCP (magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography) = dilation of biliary tree, stone (black)
- non-invasive (however non-therapeutic)
- gives great definition of biliary tree
- ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography)
- diagnostic & therapeutic
- removal of stones through ampulla in duodenum using endoscope (sphincterotomy) • sometimes temporary stent inserted to help bile flow
