Garland tries to be polite about the fact that he used prostitutes whilst being with Sheila
I was sorry for her (act two)
Garland felt sorry for a young woman, this is controversial especially infront of the Birlings
She didn’t blame me at all (act two)
Tries to make himself feel better by taking the balme off him slightly
We’ve no proof it was the same photograph and therefore no proof it was the same girl (act three)
Thinks that because he decided the inspector wasn’t real, that none of what they did actually happened
