Q

Driving Restrictions

A

There is no specific cutoff for driving and the MMSE. You need a lot more information than this and in the end, all that we can do as physicians is cognitive testing - not functional testing. I believe that the correct answer for driving in BC is to use the SIMARD-MD. It is scored out of 100. If the score is less than 30, they are likely to fail a driving assessment and I think you can tell them not to drive. If it is between 31-70 they should be sent for a driving assessment. If it is >71 then they are likely to pass the driving assessment and so they can keep driving. That said, I have personal issues with this test and its validations, but there you go.
