What is the general aim of rehabilitation?
-To maximize, restore, or maintain an individual’s function. *Holistic approach
What areas, generally speaking, are typically addressed?
-Areas addressed in rehab are, physical, sensory, intellectual, social function, and psychological.
Multidisciplinary
-OT, PT, SLP
Interdisciplinary
-OT, PT, PTA, Nursing, common in home care, all team members have a discussion (collaborate) of what the clients needs are, each discipline will take a piece that is within their scope
Transdiciplinary
-OT, Nursing, MD, Social worker, arena style assessment, come up with teams goals, one person will go and work on goals, others brought in if necessary
Who is the most important member of the rehabilitation team?
-The client
What “type” of assessment is considered the norm for evaluating older adults in rehabilitation settings?
-Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment. Measures functional performance in ADL’s, balance, cognition, strength, PLOF, follows the OTPF in identifying occupations that the pt performs, look at it from a holistic perspective
Within the different types of rehabilitation delivery systems, what areas should assessments measure?
-Assessments should measure functional performance and the individual’s ability to participate in meaningful activities. *Performance *Needs (within these look at personal and environmental factors)
What personal and environmental factors may influence the rehabilitation process?
- Personal factors: motivation, being frail, depression, cognition, comorbidities
- Environmental factors: where they live, caregivers, client and therapist interaction
- Either are facilitators or barriers for an individual to progress well in therapy
