-we see at the start of the play Gerald is reluctant in accepting social responsibility and therefore doesn’t take any blame for Eva’s death. He is apart of the younger generation but contrast Eric and Sheila who are apart of the younger generation too however they change becoming more sympathetic towards Eva’s death, feeling remorse and guilty for her death

“Everything’s all right now, Sheila. What about this ring?”

A

-After the Inspector’s interegation throught the whole family Gerald isn’t presented to change much asking Sheila to be engaged as if nothing had happened.
-The ring is used to symbolize capitalist union, rather than Gerald learning from his mistakes he wants to still continue life and join the two family business together to get richer still choosing the capitalist society rather than the socialist equal society
