George Washington wanted to retire to his home Mount. Vernon and live out a quiet retirement. However, he decided to serve as president after the people of the United States convinced him that he was the most able and needed leader for the job.

George Washington was going to serve in the British navy when he was 15. However, his mother prevented him from going. He served in the French and Indian War, and was promoted to colonel.
