State
A formal group that is sovereign over its members and couples a well defined territory. It is the formal apparatus of authoritative roles and law norms through which that sovereignty is exercised
Balance of power
Parity or stability between competing forces

Hegemony
Leadership or predominant influence excised by one nation over others
(National) security
A government should protect the state and the safety/wellbeing of all its citizens against all “national” crises. This can entail a variety of power projections such as political power, diplomacy, economic power, and military might
Bilateral
Action or decision performed by two countries involved in a situation
Unilateral
Action or decision performed by a country involved in a situation without an agreement of another or the others
Multilateral
Action or decision performed by multiple countries involved in a situation
Encirclement
A military term for the situation when a force or target is isolated and surrounded by enemy forces
(National) sovereignty
The full right and power of a governing body to govern itself without any interference from outside sources or bodies
Natural resources
Materials or substances occurring in nature which can be exploited for economic gain
Primacy
Being pre-eminent or most important
Containment
A policy of checking the expansion or influence of a hostile power or ideology, as by the creation of strategic alliances or support of client States in areas of conflict or unrest
Sphere of influence
A spatial region over which a state has a level of cultural, economic, or political exclusivity, accommodating to the interests of powers outside its borders of the state that controls it.
