Geometry Unit 7 Flashcards
What is line c called in relation to lines a and b
Transversal
What is a Transversal?
A line that intersects two or more co planar lines at different points
What makes two lines co planar?
They lie in the same plane
What is the definition of parallel lines
parallel lines are co-planar and do not intersect. They also have the same slope.
What are corresponding angles
When you have a transversal intersecting parallel lines, one angle is outside the lines and one is between the two lines on the same side of the transversal
What do we know about corresponding angles
They are congruent
What are same side interior angles
When you have a transversal intersecting parallel lines, Two angles that are on the same side of the transversal between the parallel lines
What can we say about sale side interior angles
They are supplementary
What do two supplementary angles add up to?
180 degrees
What do to complementary angles add up to?
90 degrees
What are alternating interior angles?
When you have a transversal intersecting parallel lines the two angles are both between the parallel lines but on opposite sides of the transversal
What can we say about alternating interior angles
They are always congruent
What is the perpendicular postulate?
If a given line and a point not on the line.. there is one line thru the point that is perpendicular to the line
What is the parallel postulate?
Given a line and a point not on the line there is exactly one line thru the point that is parallel to the line
What is the perpendicular transversal theorem?
if a transversal is perpendicular to one of two parallel lines then it is perpendicular to the other line
