Geometry Unit 11 Flashcards
What are congruent triangles?
Triangles that have the same size and shape.
What’s another definition of congruence of triangles?
Triangles are congruent IFF one can be obtained from the other via a series of rigid motions.
What are corresponding parts
The one to one matching of sides and angles from one figure to another
What can you say about congruent triangles sides and angles.
Congruent triangles have 3 pairs of congruent sides an 3 pairs of congruent angles
When are two line segments congruent?
If they have the same length
When are two angles congruent?
If they have the same measure
What are the conditions for triangle congruence?
SSS (Side-Side-Side)
SAS (Side-Angle-Side)
ASA (Angle-Side-Angle)
AAS (Angle-Angle-Side)
HL (Hypotenuse-Leg)
What is the transitive property?
if a=b and b= c then a=c
What is the reflexive property?
A = A (any item is the same as itself)
What are vertical angles?
The angles formed by intersecting lines or line segments opposite eachother.
What can we say about vertical angles?
They are congruent
What is the symmetric property
If A=B then B=A
What is a hypotenuse?
The part of a right triangle opposite the right angle
What is the Hypotenuse leg theorem
If two right triangles have identical length hypotenuses and one identical leg they are congruent
