Geometry Flashcards
What is probability?
A value that tells us how likely that event is to happen
What does zero on a number line mean?
Means an event cannot happen. It is impossible
What does one on a number line mean?
The event is going to happen. It would definitely and certainly happen
What does half on a number line mean?
Means an event is just as likely to happen and not to happen
What does less than half on a number line mean?
It is unlikely
What does greater than half on a number line?
It is likely
What is a trial in probability?
The amount of times of doing it
What does a few trials results in?
It results in the answer being more likely to be incorrect
What does many trials results in?
Many trials results in the increase chances of expected probabilities
What is the formula of the probability of an event?
of outcomes that satify requirements ÷ total # of possible outcomes
What is a mean?
It is the average. The mean of the data is the total sum of all the values and we divide by total number of values
What is the mode?
The most often. No mode, one mode, more than one mode
What is the median value?
First arrange in ascending order. It is the data value in the middle. if there are two add them together and divide by two (average).
What is the range?
Highest number - lowest number.
What is a parallelogram?
A quadrilateral with both pairs and opposite sides parallel
What is a rectangle?
A parallelogram with one angle equal to 90°
What is a rhombus?
A parallelogram with two adjacent sides equal
What is a square?
Rectangle with two adjacent sides equal
What is a kite?
A quadrilateral with two pairs of adjacent sides equal
What is a trapezium?
A quadrilateral with only one pair of opposite sides parallel
What does the word isosceles mean?
It is derived from two Greek words isos and skelos meaning equal leg
What does the word scalene mean?
Scalene is derived from a Greek word skalos meaning uneven
What does the word equilateral mean?
Derive from to Latin words aequi and latera meaning equal sides
What is an equilateral triangle?
All sides are equal and all the angles are equal
What is an isosceles triangle?
Two sides are equal and two angles are equal. It stands up and the legs are the same
What is a scalene triangle?
All sides are unequal and all angles are equal
What is an obtuse angle triangle?
The biggest angle is equal to an obtuse angle
What is an right angle triangle?
The largest angle is equal to 90°
What is an acute angle triangle?
The largest angle is an acute angle meaning that all angles are acute
What does the interior angles of a triangle or supplementary mean?
The interior angles of a triangle equal to 180°. All interior angles equal to 180°. The reason is angles in a triangle are supplementary
What does the exterior angle of a triangle equal to the sum of two interior opposite angles mean?
The exterior angle of a triangle equal to the sum of the two opposite interior angles. It is not the adjacent angle but the other two angles. The reason is exterior angle of a triangle is equal to sum of opposite interior angles
What is the side of an isosceles triangle equal to?
FB2 opposite sides are equal then the two opposite angles are equal. The reason is angles opposite equal sides are equal. The other reason is side opposite equal angles are equal
What is a quadrilateral?
A quadrilateral has four sides and four angles. The sum of the interior angles of a quadrilateral is equal to 360°
What is a convex quadrilateral?
convex quadrilateral is a quadrilateral which has all interior angles less than 180 degrees and all the diagonals lie within the quadrilateral
What is a concave quadrilateral?
Concave quadrilaterals are four sided polygons that have one interior angle greater than 180∘.
What forms an angle?
Two rays with a common endpoint (vertex) form an angle
What is an angle?
An angle is the distance between to raise with a common vertex
What is a protractor?
An instrument used to measure angles
What is a right angle?
90°
What is an acute angle?
Between zero and 90°
What is an obtuse angle?
Between 90 and 180°
What is a straight angle?
180°
What is a reflex angle?
Between 180° and 360°
What is a revolution angle?
360°
What are adjacent angles?
Angles I have a common vertex and a common side between them are called adjacent angles
What is a complimentary angle?
two angles are complimentary when the sum of them measure 90°
What is a supplementary angle?
Two angles are supplementary when the sum of them measure 180°
What is vertically opposite?
Two lines that intersect form two pairs of vertically opposite angles. The vertically opposite angles are always equal when they are formed on straight lines
What are corresponding angles?
They form part of parallel lines. When parallel lines are cut by a transversal line, then the corresponding angles are equal. It forms an F
What are alternating angles?
When parallel lines are cut by a transversal line, then the interior alternating angles are equal. It forms a Z
What are exterior alternating angles?
When parallel lines are cut by a transversal line then the exterior out in Alternating angles are equal. These are vertically opposite
What are co-interior angles?
When parallel lines are cut by a transversal line then the co-interior angles are supplementary. It forms a u
What is the hypotenuse?
In a right angle triangle, the side opposite a right angle is called the hypotenuse
What does the theorem of Pythagoras state?
In any right angled triangle, the area of the square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the areas of the square on the other two sides
What is the converse of theorem of Pythagoras?
The condos of Pythagoras theorem states that if the area of the square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the area of the squares on the other two side then the triangle is right angled. It is when you split the triangle into two different parts
How do we know in conversed Pythagoras whether a triangle is right angled?
The square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the square on the other two sides
How do you know if an acute angle triangle is part of Pythagoras theorem?
The square on the hypotenuse is greater than the sum of the squares on the other two sides. The right angle is bigger
In the conversed Pythagoras theorem how do you know whether a triangle is obtuse angle?
The square on the hypotenuse is greater than the sum of the squares on the other two sides
