Angles Flashcards
What is a point? How do we name dots
They are positions and they have no size. On paper they are shown as dots. We name dots using capital letters.
What is a line? How is it named?
It has no end points. It extends indefinitely in two directions. It is named by two of its points. Line AB or line over the AB.
What is a line segment? How is it named?
A line segment is part of a line. It has two end points. It is named by its end points. Line segment AB or line over the AB.
What is a ray? How is it named?
A ray has only one end point and goes on forever in one direction only. It is name ray AB or ray over the AB.
What is a plane? Name some examples.
A flat surface that continues forever in all directions. A table top, a sheet of paper or a flier are all parts of planes. Plane ABCD
What is a parallel line? Name some examples.
Parallel lines never meet. Railroad tracks are an example. AB||CD
What is intersecting?
Intersecting lines have a point of intersection l. Line AB intersect line CD at point E.
What is perpendicular?
Intersecting lines that form right angles.
What is an angle?
An angle is formed by two rays that have the same beginning point.
What is a vertex?
The common beginning point is called the vertex and the two rays are the sides of the angle.
What is a degree?
A degree is the unit of measure of an angle. 15•
What is a protractor?
A measuring instrument used to measure the size of angles on degrees.
How do we name angles?
The middle letter is always the vertex. Angle ABC.
Acute angle
0 and 90 degrees.
Right angle
Exactly 90 degrees.
