Geology map of Hunstanton Flashcards
State three advantages of the Geology map of Hunstanton
-it is useful to support our primary data collection as it clearly shows from a Birds Eye view the areas of hard and soft rock within our study area.
-shows that Hunstanton is an area made up of sedimentary, soft rock
-shows where erosion/weathering have taken place.
Explain one way in which the geology map supported your understanding of your coastal investigation
The geology map supported my understanding of the coastal investigation as it allows me to understand + locate the spatial variety of landforms in the area, and that Hunstanton is a concordant coastline. In addition, it helped with planning our sites for stratified sampling.
Where are the locations of the sea defences in relation to Hunstanton town?
The sea defences are distributed mainly in New Hunstanton because that’s where more settlement (housing, retail, entertainment and industry) are.
What might the land have looked like if the sea defences hadn’t have been placed here?
A build up of land would be there as longshire drift, without defences, has this impact. (The town would be smaller)
How have the physical processes influenced the town of Hunstanton?
Erosion has retreated the cliff and the waves influence longshire drift, therefore, as Hunstanton is a place of tourism, defences are implemented which require money and maintenance, leaving other northern areas unprotected due to erosion.
