Rivers Recap Assessment
What’s the first step of the hydrological cycle?
Evaporation - The sun evaporates the water into the atmosphere.
What’s the second step of the hydrological cycle?
Condensation - The water vapor in the air cools and
condenses to form
clouds.
What’s the third step of the hydrological cycle?
Precipitation - The clouds become saturated and release precipitation. (It rains)
What’s the fourth step of the hydrological cycle?
Infiltration - The rain infiltrates into the soil or is
intercepted by plant roots.
What’s the fifth step of the hydrological cycle?
Surface run off -
The rain if not absorbed will flow as either surface runoff, base flow or through flow.
Watershed
The area of high land forming the edge of a river basin.

The point at which two rivers meet.
Tributary
A small river or stream that joins a larger river.
Channel
This is where the water flows within the river.
Drainage Basin
This is the area of land drained by a river and its
tributaries.
