What is footpath erosion?
- Plants are shortened and stunted where trodden on causing them to die
- Soil is exposed to rainwater and becomes muddy
- Walkers avoid muddy centres and walk on the edges
- This repeats and causes the path to widen, and once underground stone to be exposed.
How is an area maintained?
- Boardwalks and designated paths to prevent footpath erosion

-Ynyslas they plant marram grass in order to encourage the growth of embryo dunes.

Wind pushes sand into piles that create small mounds, plants aid this as they trap the sands movement.
