Q

Typhoon formation

A
  1. 27•C sea temp reuqired, depth>50m
  2. Coriolis effect required to cause warm air to circulate and form storm
  3. Air rises rapidly (27 degrees), low pressure
  4. Rising air draws more air and moisture from ocean causing strong winds
  5. Air rises, cools and condenses to from towering cumulonimbus clouds which generate torrential rainfall
  6. The heat given off when air cooled powers the storm
  7. The Coriolis effect causes air to spin upwards around a calm central eye of the storm
  8. The storm travels across the ocean in the prevailing wind
