Q
Typhoon formation
A
- 27•C sea temp reuqired, depth>50m
- Coriolis effect required to cause warm air to circulate and form storm
- Air rises rapidly (27 degrees), low pressure
- Rising air draws more air and moisture from ocean causing strong winds
- Air rises, cools and condenses to from towering cumulonimbus clouds which generate torrential rainfall
- The heat given off when air cooled powers the storm
- The Coriolis effect causes air to spin upwards around a calm central eye of the storm
- The storm travels across the ocean in the prevailing wind
