When reading a coordinate, where do you read it from?
The bottom left corner.
How many figures does a 4 and 6 figure reference contain?
4 and 6
What does a large scale map show?
Large scale maps show the most detail but only cover a small area e.g. road maps, town plans.
What does a small scale map show?
Small scale maps show less detail but cover a larger area e.g. maps of the whole of the UK.
What does a stated scale do?
It tells us EXACTLY how much distance is represented by 1cm.
What does a Linear Scale do?
It tells us how much map distance represents real life distance.
What does a ration scale do?
It is found all maps.
It is the most accurate way to measure distance
What does weather mean?
Weather is the actual state of the atmosphere at one particular place at a certain time. It refers to wind, precipitation, temperature, visibility (clouds/sun).
What is climate?
Climate is the average weather expected over a long period of time (usually 30 years) over a large area, usually a region.
What is seasonality?
It is the periods on the earthβs surface which are characterized by their distinguishing climate.

What is continentality?
A measure of the difference between continental and marine climates characterized by the increased range of temperatures that occurs over land compared with water.
What is an ocean current?

What is prevailing winds?
The prevailing wind is the most frequent wind direction a location experiences.
What are some features of high pressure?
- Clear sky
- Light wind
- Clouds form
- High wind
What are some features of low pressure?
- Anticyclones
- Showers and storms
- Depressions
- Warm weather
How do tropical cyclones form?
-These are low pressure system.
- Very strong winds and heavy rain.
- Driven by energy from water vapour, which condenses to form high storm clouds.
- They need certain conditions to be able to form.
- Known by different names around the world.
How do we measure the Saffir Simpson scale?
We measure them in categories, 1-5.
What are the categories of the Saffir scale.
- Storm surge 1.5m
- Storm surge 2.2m
- Storm surge 3.4m
4.Storm surge 4.6m
5.Storm surge 5.5m
How do you explain something in Geography?
POINT -Provide a valid point
EVIDENCE -Give examples to exemplify the point
EXPLANATION -Expand your point with detail or an extra point using connectives such as: βwhich
means thatβ¦β; βso thatβ¦β; or βthereforeβ¦β
LINK - If your question requires you to explain
how βx affects yβ, make sure you now link
your answer to βyβ.
