Muslims
The Al-Aqsa Mosque compound was the first focal point of Muslim worship and the direction that Muslims faced when they prayed before the Kaaba in Makkah became the permanent Qibla. The Qur’an mentions the Al-Aqsa Mosque as “holy” and “blessed” in many places. Muslims also believe that the Prophet Muhammad was transported from Mecca to the Al-Aqsa Mosque during the Night Journey, where he led Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and other messengers in prayer.

Jews

They believe that King Solomon built the first temple there 3,000 years ago, and that the Romans destroyed a second temple in AD 70. The Al-Aqsa Mosque compound also overlooks the Western Wall, a sacred place of prayer for Jewish people.

Christians
The Al-Aqsa Mosque is also significant to Christians because of its connection to events in the life of Jesus Christ.
