What is economic sustainability?
To ensure that all people can enjoy prosperous, fulfilling lives and economic progress can occur in harmony with nature
What is social sustainability?
To ensure that societies are inclusive and resilient, where residents have a voice
What is Environmental sustainability?
To sustainably manage natural resources and take actions on climate change to support the needs of present and future generations
How can Economic sustainability be achieved?
1)Providing facilities and infrastructures to support local businesses
2)Local businesses being able to provide goods and services to meet demands
3)Having good transport infrastructures to facilitate ease of movement of goods and services and keeping transport costs low
4)Attracting foreign investments that create jobs and generate income
5)Providing training and educational opportunities for all – to upgrade skills and knowledge to enhance employability and income
How can social sustainability be achieved?
Having community spaces to promote regular social interactions
Facilitate regular interactions (e.g. by Residents’ Networks in Singapore) to discuss issues pertaining to the neighbourhood. Issues include facilities upgrading or maintenance, area cleaning, organize events, etc.)
How can environmental sustainability be achieved?
Having ample protection for nature (e.g. laws, education, create barriers, etc.)
Having facilities for people to recycle wastes and organizing recycling activities within the neighbourhood
Investing in green technology to reduce carbon emissions, recycle waste, etc.
Building more green buildings and use of energy/water efficient devices that tap on renewable/clean energy, reduce consumption of electricity/water
Planting more trees and creating more green spaces/park connectors
