Geog Flashcards
What is weather
The condition of the atmosphere around us (daily)
What is climate
The average weather experienced in a place (what it’s usually like) over a long period of time .
What is an atmosphere
The earth is wrapped in a layer of gas called atmosphere. Atmosphere is tied to the earth by gravity so it cannot escape into space
What are the names given to 4 levels of the atmosphere
Troposphere
Stratosphere
mesosphere
Exosphere
Name the weather instrument
Thermometer Rain gauge Barometer Anemometer Weather vane
How do you measure the thermometer
The heat in the air will heat up the thermometer and the liquid will rise up and when cold will retract then giving you a temperature
How to read a anemometer
The wind turns the cups to a certain speed then you can measure
How do you measure a barometer
A barometer measures the weight of the air so at a certain time take the reading and that is the air pressure
How do you read a weather vane
The wind will move a pad and will make it point a certain direction
How do u measure a rain gauge
The rain will fill up your rain gauge to a certain point then when it stops raining you can measure it with a ruler
Units of measurements for weather instruments
Rain gauge/mm Thermometer/0° Anemometer/mph or kph Barometer/mb Weather vane/n,s,e,w
What is an air mass
A large mass of air that blows towards us, It brings the characteristics of air
What does pm, pc, tm, and tc stand for
Pm = polar marintine Pc = polar continental Tm = tropical marintine Tc = tropical continental
How does the water cycle work
In the hydrologic cycle, water from oceans, lakes, swamps, rivers, plants, and even you, can turn into water vapor. Water vapor condenses into millions of tiny droplets that form clouds. Clouds lose their water as rain or snow, which is called precipitation.
What is an eco system
An eco system is our surroundings of environment
it is a community of non living things
Eco systems can be any size and can be found in land and water
