Geo Lab #8 Flashcards
Pacing for distance
1- pace interval formula
2- procedure
Pace interval formula
Pace interval = known distance/ # of paces
Procedure
Walk known distance, count paces, calculate pace interval
Orienteering compass
1-Components
2- Bearing
Components
1-Graduated compass circle (0°-360°).
2- North (0°), East (90°), South (180°), West
(270°).
Bearing:
Face object, align Direction Arrow, read degrees.
Calculate Pace Interval:
1-Walk hallway distance, count paces.
2-Pace Interval = Known Distance / # of
Paces (record to two decimal places.
Collect Field Data:
1-Record Bearing and # of Paces for all sides of the triangle.
2-Choose Map Area: Circle A or B.
Convert Field Data to Map Data:
1-Use Pace Interval to convert paces to
Ground Distance (m).
2-Convert Ground Distance (m) to Map
Distance (cm) using 1 cm = 2 m scale.
Create Triangle Map:
1-Plot exact bearing and distance on graph.
2-Check for correct lines, labels, and map
scale.
