Fold
Up-warped or down-warped bends in rock layers with limbs on either side of an axial plane.
Anticline
Up-warped fold with the oldest rocks exposed in the center.
Syncline
Down-warped fold with the youngest rocks exposed in the center.
Plunging Fold
Fold whose axis is no longer horizontal, plunging into the earth.
Fault
Break or fracture in rock layers along which movement has occurred.
Normal Fault
Fault where the hanging wall moves down relative to the foot wall.
Reverse Fault
Fault where the hanging wall moves up relative to the foot wall.
Thrust Fault
Reverse fault with a fault plane angle of less than 45° from the horizontal.
Strike-Slip Fault
Fault where the earth has moved laterally along the fault plane.
