Gentic Control Flashcards
The operator does what?
Turns off the structural gene when the repressor molecule binds to it
What happens if lactose is present?
The repressor molecule binds to lactose instead and the operator and structural genes are switched on as nothing is binding to the operator to switch it off and the enzyme is produced
What happens if enzyme one is not able to produce tyrosine
Phenylalanine builds up in the blood and disrupts normal brain development
What if gene 3 prevents the production of enzyme 3?
No melanin will be produced and the person will become albino
What is the hormone produced in the pituitary gland that stimulates the thyroid gland and what hormone does it produce ?
TSH and thyroxine
What is the outcome of high levels of thyroxine in the blood
It reduces TSH production and because the TSH decreases so does the thyroxine production which then will increase TSH production again
The regulator gene produces what
The repressor molecule
