Populations And Succession Flashcards
What are 2 density dependent factors
Predation, disease, competition for food and resources
Why are populations monitored?
To ensure continued supply of food and raw materials, to be aware of pest species growing, measure of pollution levels by indicator species and to determain whether a species is in danger of extinction and if conservation is needed
As each stage in succession changes what increases with it
Fertility of soils, biomass, species diversity, complexity of food webs
What is the first stage called
The pioneer community
What are the initial colonisers in most cases
Lichens
What is the final stage called
Climax
What is 2 density independent factors
Temperature, droughts, flooding, natural disasters
