Genomics Flashcards
What is omics
genome sequencing analysis of RNAs, proteins and metabolites
What are proteomics
Genome wide study of abundance of proteins at different growth conditions
What is interactomics
Genome wide protein-protein interactions
What is Metabolomics
Total small molecules (metabolites)
What is Transcriptome
Entire component of RNA produced under a given set of conditions
Used to understand how an organism transcriptionally responds to specific conditions
Transcriptome analysis:
Microarrays
Need to make array first, small dynamic range of signal and not very precise
Transcriptome analysis:
Next generation sequencing
Precisely counts the mRNA copies per cell, more frequently used then microarrays
Whats an annotation
converting raw sequence data into a list of genes present in genome
What do restriction enzymes do?
protect bacterial cell from invasion by destroying foreign DNA
What do modification enzymes do?
Protect cells DNA from own restriction enzyme
