What are some characterisitics of a genocide (based off UN)?
- the intent to destroy a group of people
-harming mental/physical
-preventing birth
-poor living conditions inflicted
-transferring children
What is the first stage of genocide and what does it mean?
Classifiation - people are divided into ‘us and them’
How many stages of genocide is there?

What is the second stage of genocide and what does it mean?
Symbolization - minority groups are classified into categories and distinguished as different names (Ex. gypsies and Jews wearing the Star of David).
What is the third stage of genocide and what does it mean?
Dehumanization - people of targeted groups are reduced to objects or something negative (Ex. cockraoches, vermin, disease)
What is the fourth stage of genocide and what does it mean?
Organization - genocides are always organized - usually by state - never by accident
What is the fifth stage of genocide and what does it mean?
Polarization - marginalizing the target group - propaganda
What is the sixth stage of genocide and what does it mean?
Preperation - victims are seperated, property is confiscated, symbols may be worn

Extermination - the mass murder (killers do not see victims has human)

Denial - perpetraitors often attempt to ‘hide the evidence’, blame the victim and/or hinder the investigations
