Genetics, Evolution, Ecosystems Flashcards
What is an autosome?
Non-sex chromosomes.
How are autosomes different from sex chromosomes?
They are homologous.
Reverse transcriptase produces…
cDNA (complementary DNA).
What are homologous chromosomes?
Chromosomes which have the same gene sequence (and length, loci and centromere location, shape) and which pair up in meiosis.
When graphing bacterial populations, we often use logarithmic graphs. What does log ₁₀ ⁽ˣ⁾ mean?
log ₁₀ ⁽ˣ⁾ means 1x10 ˣ.
What is Indoleacetic Acid (IAA)?
An important auxin. (Promotes shoots, inhibits roots.)
Define sex-linkage.
Gene’s locus is on one chromosome (X).
Define autosomal linkage.
Genes are located on the same autosomal chromosome.
Homozygous
Same allele
Heterozygous
Different alleles
Monohybrid
One gene
Dihybrid
Two genes
