Genetics Flashcards
What are the phases of Mitosis
Main phases summarised by PMAT. In order they are Interphase (I), Prophase (P), Metaphase (M), Anaphase (A), Telephase (T) and Cytokenisis (C),
Base Pairs of DNA
DNA has the base pairs of Thymine (T) and Adenine (A) which pair together and Cytosine (C) and Guanine (G) which pair together
What are the base
pairs in DNA?
Guanine - Cytosine
Thymine - Adenine
Base pairs of RNA
RNA has the same base pairs of DNA except Thymine (T) is replaced by Uracil (U) which pairs with Adenine (A)
Definition of Mitosis
The definition of Mitosis is when a cell splits creating an identical clone of the cell. Effectively cloning itself. Mitosis is used for cell regulation
Definition of Meiosis
The definition of Meiosis is when a cell splits into 4 genetically diverse daughter cells for the purpose of sexual reproduction.
