Genetic Engineering Flashcards
What is genetic engineering ?
Genetic engineering is a process which allows DNA to be exchanged between organisms. This allows scientists to make useful products
Why do cells require energy?
Cells require energy to transmit nerve impulses
What is used to generate the ATP?
The energy reeleased from the breakdown of glucose is often used to generate the ATP
Where is the ATP made in?
*ATP is made in cells from ADP and inorganic phosphate (Pi)
Adenosine- Pi-Pi-Pi
2 inorganic phosphate*
Adenosine with 3 organic phosphates?
Adenosine- Pi-Pi-Pi
3 organic phosphates
The formation of ATP
The formation of ATP allows the cell to store the energy released from respiration. The process of forming ATP uses energy from respiration to add inorganic phosphate molecules to ADP
What is respiration?
*The chemical energy stored in glucose must be released by all cells through a series of respiration.
Glucose + Oxygen —– Carbon + Water + Energy dioxide*
What happens to the breakdown of glucose?
*The energy released from the breakdown of glucose is used to generate ATP
