DNA and the Production of Proteins Flashcards
Where is DNA found?
DNA is found in the nucleus of cells
What can we see when a DNA strand is unwound?
When a strand of DNA is unwound we can see that it is made up of two parts, a backbone and bases
What are the different types of bases within a DNA strand?
There are four different types of base, they each have a different shape these bases are: Adenine,Thymine,Guanine and Cytosine
The order of the bases determines our charactersistics *
What is the structure of DNA called?
The structure of DNA is a double stranded helix held together by complementary base pairs
What is the main function of DNA?
DNA contains the instructions needed for an organism to develop, survive and reproduce.
What does the mRNA do?
The mRNA passes through the nucleus wall into the cytoplasm to get to the ribosome.
What do antibodies do?
Antibodies combine with foreign pathogens. They protect the body from diseases by destroying disease-causing organisims
What do receptors do?
Receptor proteins allow signals to be transmitted across the membrane into the cell
