What is GAD?
It is an anxiety disorder brought about by excessive worrying. A common anxiety disorder characterised by excessive and uncontrollable worry. Sufferers expect disasters and constantly worry about health, money, family, work etc.
DSM-V CRITERIA
Disproportionate worry or anxiety Struggling to control worrying Restlessness Easily fatigued Difficulty in concentrating Irritability Muscle tension Sleep disturbance.
What does GAD mean in medical terms?
It is a mental health condition caused by excessive worrying. This worry leads to anxieties which are difficult to control.
What causes GAD
It is unknown. However, some studies suggest genes play a role and stress may trigger it.
What is the definition of GAD?
It is an anxiety disorder marked by chronic excessive worry and anxiety that is difficult to control. It causes distress and impairment in daily social and personal functioning. It is accompanied by three or more associated symptoms : Restlessness, irritability, poor concentration, sleep disturbances.
What are the associated symptoms of GAD
Restlessness - irritability - poor concentration - sleep disturbances for more than six months.
Are genetics responsible for GAD
Unknown, however, some studies suggest genes may be responsible, but stress may trigger it.
