Name 3 physical categorical/general observational things to look for in patient,
- Apparent state of health
- Location of consciousness (LOC)
- Skin color or obvious lesions
What are the first characteristics doctors should note of patient? Followed by what?
- Face, Height, Weight
- Sitting, moving, protecting body part
- facial coloring, dentition, muscularity, hands, nails
Name 3 signs of distress.
- Cardiac or respiratory distress
- Pain or difficulty moving
- Anxiety or depression
Name and describe 5 appearance clues to a patients condition.
Position- assumed by patient to accommodate pain (standing, sitting, laying)
Quick Postural Scan- AP curves, lateral deviation, symmetry, lesions, masses, or dilated vessels
Gait- balanced and effortless, limping or favoring
Motor Activity- coordinated movements or involuntary movements
Define osteoporosis.
bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue typically resulting of vit. D, calcium, or phosphate deficiency
What is a “dowager’s hump?”
-Increased thoracic kyphosis
What does the term gait.
-Person’s manner of walking
What is antalgic gait?
Type of gait that develops as way to avoid pain of walking
What are 4 fundamental reasons why gait may occur?
- Pain
- Immobile joints
- Muscular weakness
- Abnormal limb control
Name 7 ways of gait assessment.
- Symmetric or assymetric
- Stance of swing phase
- Body portion affected
- Speed
- Agility or fluid motion
- Coordination
- Walk and Talk
