General Studies review Flashcards
What are the Jumpmaster Currency Requirements?
•JM Currency: Current static line jumper and…
• PJM or AJM duties within 180 days; or
• Completed a JM refresher course in the previous 180
days and be a current jumper (Regardless of JM rating)
• If a senior-rated or master-rated parachutist,
performed duty as a safety on military, high-performance fixed-wing aircraft within 180 days
What are the Jumpmaster TM qualification requirements?
ABN CDR: E7 and above, JM Current and Qualified
PJM: E5 and above, JM Current and Qualified, 2x AJM, 2x Safety
AJM: E5 and above, JM Current and Qualified, 2x Safety
Safety: E5 and above, JM Current and Qualified, JM Refresher
What are the requirements to run a Jumpmaster refresher course?
Must be delivered by a current and qualified Jumpmaster and DZSO
What are the requirements to run BAR?
Must be a current and qualified Jumpmaster, E6 and above, Senior or Master rated parachutist preferred.
What are the General Jumpmaster Responsibilities?
All JM duties begin immediately upon notification.
•Regardless of rank, AJM/Safety under the command of PJM.
•Don’t sacrifice safety standard to meet a timeline or to conduct the airborne operation.
• ABN CDR & PJM can delegate authority but cannot delegate responsibility
What are the Safety’s duties in flight?
Assist the JM’s in safely conducting the airborne
operation
•Relocating of Jumpers on the A/C (Refusals,
Unsafe, Sick).
• Begin checking static-lines at command “hookup.”
• Control static lines during exit procedures.
• Visually check for towed jumpers.
• Retrieve static line and deployment bags.
• Control personnel and equipment remaining on
the A/C
Define High-Performance A/C.
C-130, C-17, C-27J (ARMY) High-performance aircraft are defined as a fixed-wing aircraft with a drop speed of 125 Knots Indicated Airspeed (KIAS) or greater. They have the ability to determine the airdrop release point (CARP) by a member of the aircrew (navigator) and must be able to exit paratroopers out of a troop door using either ADEPT option two or MASS Exit procedures.
What are the MC-6 Drop Altitudes, Peacetime?
High Performance A/C: -1250 ft. AGL Basic Airborne Training -1000 ft. AGL Planning -800 ft. AGL Tactical -475 ft. AGL Combat Rotary Wing A/C: -Speed greater or equal to 90 Knots = 1250 ft. AGL -Speed less than 90 Knots = 1500 ft. AGL
What are the C-130 Seating Configurations?
• Mass Exit Operations (TAP-1)
• 62 jumpers including PJM and AJM
• 2 non-jumping safeties
• 2 load masters
• In-Flight Rigging (TAP-2) Purpose of 5 min standard
during the SLJMQC.
• 52 jumpers (w/CE) including 2 non-jumping safeties
• 2 loadmasters
• 3 additional AJMs included for rigging and JMPI in flight
• Rigging begins 2:20 from TOT, complete by :20 warning
• Over The Ramp (TAP-3)
• 40 jumpers (w/equip.) including 2 non-jumping safeties
• 2 Load Masters
• 20 jumper limit per anchor line cable
• If the JM and AJM jump, they’re 1st parachutist of each stick. Safeties control flow of parachutists
• Door check not required
• For GMRS, static JM must spot ground marking from port side
Where are the 7 caution lights located on a C-130?
- Set 1=Crew Entrance Door
- Set 2 & 3=Top leading edges of right and left doors
- Set 4 & 5=Trailing edges of right and left doors, waist high
- Sets 6 & 7=Right and left anchor cable aft supports
What are the jump C-17 Characteristics?
- Drop speed: 130 KTS +/- 3
- 27 max jumpers on outboard cable
- 24 max jumpers on inboard cable
- Max total jumpers 100 + 2 static safeties
- Required PAX:
- 1 JM/door
- 1 Static Safety/door
- 1 Loadmaster
- 5’ Universal Static Line Extension required
- Over-the-ramp not authorized due to the length of the anchor line and proximity of D-Bags to the ramp
What are the C-17 Time Warnings?
• 2 hours 20 minutes – Begin in-flight rig
• 20 minutes - In-flight rig complete. 20 minute time warning may be increased to 30 minutes
aboard C-17 if JM needs more time to accomplish duties
• 10 minutes - “RED” light. All inspections complete. JM hooks up to the inboard anchor line cable. JM issues jump commands
• 10 minute time warning may be increased to 15 minutes aboard C-17 if JM needs more time to accomplish duties
What are the Towed Jumper procedures?
• Priority should always be to retrieve the jumper back into the aircraft
• The aircraft commander has final decision authority
whether to cut a towed jumper free. NOTE. It is a general rule that the JM or Safety will cut away anything green (indicating equipment) and the loadmaster will cut away anything yellow (indicating static line).
What are the UH-60 Loading Procedures?
- Approach the door at a 90-degree angle in reverse order beginning with jumper #8
- Jumpers 1 - 4 load at the right door, Jumpers 5 - 8 load at the left door
- Jumper approaches the JM, makes eye contact, and hands JM USL snap hook
- Jumper visually confirms JM securely fastened snap hook to D-ring
- The opening gate of the universal static line snap hook must face the front of the A/C
- Jumper # 4 holds a reverse bight with the right hand
- Jumper # 8 holds a reverse bight with the left hand
- JM stows excess static line through the static line slack retainer band from bottom to top
- JM will give the command: “FASTEN SAFETY BELTS” and inspects safety belts once fastened
What are the UH-60 Jump Commands?
1 - “GET READY” -4 min TOT or 1000’ AGL. All safety belts removed
2 - “CHECK STATIC LINES” -JM checks jumpers’ static lines from pack tray to anchor cable, stows excess
3 - “CHECK EQUIPMENT”
4 - “SOUND OFF FOR EQUIPMENT CHECK” -Jumper 1 gives JM thumbs up and verbal okay, all other jumpers follow
5 - “SIT IN THE DOOR” -30 sec TOT. All jumpers except 4 and 8 assume position in door. If jumpers already sitting in door, command is replaced with “30 SECONDS” time warning
6 - “STAND BY” -10 sec. All jumpers place hands on floor of aircraft and prepare to push out on JM’s command
7 - “GO” -JM gives verbal command and taps out jumpers numerically starting with 1. Upon exit of jumper 3, JM controls static line of jumper 4 as he moves into door and is tapped out. Likewise for jumper 8
