Q

How do you calculate Feet Indicated?

A

Obtain drop altitude from the highest point on the DZ

MSL) and add the desired drop altitude of the A/C (AGL

Q

What are some drop altitude consideration factors?

A

Drop altitude is 500’ above highest obstacle that falls within three miles either side of DZ run-in (IMC/SKE only). CDS using G-13 or any other parachute, minimum drop altitude is 400’. CDS using G-14 parachute can drop from 300’ AGL

Q

What are the two occasions for combination drops to occur?

A
  • When different A/C drop different types of loads in the same pass
  • When different type loads exit same A/C in same pass over DZ

16
Q

Never allow Bundles and personnel to exit A/C

simultaneously?

A

True

17
Q

What are the three types of Air Drops?

A

High Velocity (drogue stabilize not slow descent), Low Velocity (Slow decent Soft landing), Free Drop (No stabilization or slowing)

18
Q

What are the four Airdrop Release Methods?

A
  • Computed Air Release Point ( CARP )
  • Ground Marking Release System ( GMRS )
  • Verbally Initiated Release System ( VIRS )
  • Wind Stream Vector Count ( WSVC )
19
Q

What factors are considered when identifying obstacles on the DZ?

A
  • Personnel: Any feature, natural or man-made, that would impose a hazard to the jumper or prevent the jumper from accomplishing the mission
  • Equipment: Any feature, natural or man-made, that could damage or hinder the recovery of equipment
20
Q

How are tree, water and wire obstacles defined?

A
  • Trees: 35’ or higher
  • Water: 4’ deep or more, 40’ wide at widest point and within 1000m from any edge of the DZ
  • Wires: Any wires carrying 50+ volts within 1000m from any edge of the DZ. Coordination with power company to shut off power NLT 15 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE DROP! If power cannot be interrupted a more detailed risk assessment must be conducted.
21
Q

What are four considerations for DZ access?

A

⮛Avoid major obstacles that would impede movement of equipment or troops between the drop zone and the objective
⮛Once on the DZ, how will the load be recovered
⮛Plan for ease of movement
⮛Enemy Situation

22
Q

What are four considerations for Adequate Approach

and Departure Routes?

A

✔No Fly Zone / Adjacent air operations
✔Obstacles
✔Terrain
✔Enemy Situation / Location

23
Q

What is the required DZ size is dependent upon?

A
⮛Drop Altitude
⮛Number of jumpers / bundles delivered
⮛A/C formations ( in trail / not in trail )
⮛Type of A/C
⮛Day or Night
24
Q

What are the minimum dimensions for a GMRS or VIRS DZ?

A

275m X 275m

25
Q

What are the minimum dimensions for a CARP personnel DZ?

A

549m X 549m. For each additional jumper add 69m

26
Q

What is the form for a DZ Survey?

A

AF Form 3823

27
Q

How long is a DZ Survey good for?

A

5 years from MAJCOM Signature

28
Q

What is an Assault Zone Availability Report (AZAR)

A

A consolidated list of DZs and LZs that are

maintained by the HQ AMC for use of DoD A/C

29
Q

Who are responsible for the size requirements of the DZ?

A

Joint responsibility of the Commander of the

Air Lift Forces (COMALF) and the Army Battle Command (ABC)
