What sequence of steps do you use to carry out a scientific investigation?
The scientific method:
Develop a question based on an observation
Make a hypothesis as a potential answer to the question
Design and conduct the experiment
Analyze the data collected to find patterns
Make a conclusion
What do scientific models allow us to do?
View objects or processes that are harder to see in real life.
The variable in an experiment that “I” change. It is the only factor that is changed in the experiment. It is placed on the x axis of a graph. It is the i in Dry Mix.
Independent variable
The variable in an experiment that is measured - it is the result of the experiment. This is plotted on the y-axis on a graph. It is the D in Dry Mix.
Dependent variable
These parts of the experiment must stay the same in an experiment.
Constants
The part of the experiment that is used for comparison. It is the “normal” scenario.
Control group
The term that is the “possible explanation” for the question asked in the experiment. Often written as “if…then…because…”
