General Operating and Flight Rules Flashcards
Passengers compliance with instructions and commands
Passengers must comply with any commands the PIC gives them which are necessary to ensure the safety of the a/c, people and property carried onboard.
Simulated instrument flight
To operate an a/c in simulated instrument flight the a/c has to have
- 2 pilot stations equipped with dual controls or pitch, roll, yaw and engine power controls that can be operated from either station
- Safety pilot must be onboard that has a current pilot’s license, adequate vision to ensure flight safety or second person to supplement the pilot’s vision.
- If there are no dual flight controls then it can only be carried out outside of controlled airspace and you must be able to easily remove the way you are simulating (e.g. foggles)
Passengers brief before flight contents
- Smoking conditions
- Storage of tray table and video screens
- Wearing of seat belts
- Location of emergency exits and any survival equipment
- Normal and emergency oxygen use
- Emergency landing procedures (including ditching)
- Use of portable electronic devices
- Statement must be made saying that passengers have to comply with lighted signs and crew instructions
- Life jacket and oxygen use
When is a passenger briefing not needed
If PIC is satisfied that the passengers are familiar with the contents of the briefing
Who must give a passenger briefing
- PIC
- Another member of the crew
- A person nominated by the operator
- Recorded presentation
Briefing cards
Must be placed in a convenient location for each passenger and be relevant for the type of a/c
Oxygen requirements for a non-pressurised a/c operating 13,000ft AMSL or operating 10,000ft AMSL for longer than 30 minutes
You and all your passengers must be using supplemental oxygen, and if you are required to move around onboard the a/c the oxygen must be portable.
Oxygen requirements for a pressurised a/c/ where the cabin alt exceeds 10,000ft AMSL
All crew members (not passengers) must use supplemental oxygen and this must be portable if the crew members need to move around the a/c
Occupation of seats and wearing restraints for passengers
Unless in a balloon or parachuting, passengers are required to occupy a seat or berth and fasten their seatbelt (and shoulder harness if equipped) for takeoff and landing, flying below 1000 ft, when the PIC considers it necessary, and in an open cockpit. The shoulder harness does not have to be worn if the PIC is satisfied that it needs to be off for the passenger to perform an essential function associated with the purpose of the flight.
Crew members at stations
Unless you are in a hot air balloon you must be at your station (seat) with your seat belt and shoulder harness fastened for take off and landing, if there is no shoulder harness or a shoulder harness would restrict your ability to do your duties you do not have to wear it
PIC authority
PIC must give the commands necessary to ensure the safety of the a/c, people and property carried onboard. This includes disembarking or refusing anyone who appears under the influence of alcohol or drugs and/or is likely to endanger the a/c or other POB
PIC safe operation of the a/c responsibilities
- Before flight: checking that all required documents and doing pre flight inspections
- During flight: operating the a/c safely and keeping passengers safe and if you notice any defects prior to flight or in flight these must be recorded in the tech log
